Leading the way: Resources on the Web

Numerous resources on the Web can help jump-start your leadership skills. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a neophyte with big dreams, these sites can point you in the right direction.

This site is an overview of LeaderSource's comprehensive leadership development courses, which include NewLeader: Selection and Development Planning for Leaders; Executive to Leader Institute: Individual Coaching and Development for Key Leaders; LeaderSynergy: Senior Team Development; LeaderCatalyst: Group Leadership Development; LeaderConnect: Career Transition for Leaders; LifePlan Institute: Executive Retirement and Life Planning; and LeaderCoach: Coaching Competency Development. In addition, the site provides information on books, articles, and links for the leader-in-training.

The Institute for Women's Leadership provides both a training program and a leadership resource for advancing women in leadership. Alumnae benefits of the institute's programs include follow-on coaching, special events, volunteer opportunities, and reunion lunches.

The Center for Creative Leadership provides training programs that can be tailored to your organization's needs. They include such things as fitness assessments, awareness programs, foundation courses, and women's leadership programs. The site also offers standardized leadership assessments and tools that can help you discover your strengths and weaknesses.

This site, hosted by the Hagberg Consulting Group, contains straightforward tips presented in bullet-list format. It includes sections on Leadership Development, Leadership and Organizational Culture, Profiles of Leadership, and Women and Leadership. Interestingly, Hagberg's data from surveys of more than 300 male and female executives found that women are significantly better managers and leaders than men.
